In 2024, the gravestone masonry "Mežabites" celebrates its 30th anniversary.

During this time, there have been significant changes in the production process and services offered. In the early 1990s, state-owned workshops ceased to exist, and there was a huge demand for cemetery equipment. The opportunity was seized by the farm to start producing simple cemetery equipment – concrete curbs, fences, and memorial plaques. At that time, residents did not have much financial means to buy something more expensive, so there was a high demand for these simple items. An additional advantage was that this equipment could be ordered and purchased in any Latvian cemetery without paying for delivery. Years have passed, residents have become wealthier, so the range of cemetery equipment offered by "Mežabite" has increased significantly due to modern technologies. You can order not only an endless number of colors and types of stone monuments and other stone products but also concrete equipment. The workshop can also order a photo of the deceased embedded in glass with a QR code containing video information about the deceased and other specific items. We also manufacture memorial plaques for the deceased in other hunting grounds, family pets, etc. Everything flows, everything changes, but the ability to deliver cemetery equipment free of charge to any Latvian cemetery remains unchanged. Over time, the farm workshop "Mežabites" has become a pure family business of the Smiltnieki family. Unfortunately, in 2021, a severe illness took away our long-time workshop manager, wife, mother, and grandmother – Iveta. However, in these 30 years, a new generation has grown up – her three sons and daughters-in-law who successfully continue the company’s development.
